On the day of Eid school bus overturned, 6 students were killed, 3 including the principal were arrested


On the holy day of Eid-ul-Fitr, 6 students were killed when a school bus overturned in Haryana, India. More than 20 people were injured. Three people including the school principal have been arrested in this incident. News of NDTV.

In a report on Thursday (April 11), NDTV reported that the bus on its way to school in Mahendragarh, Haryana, collided with a tree and overturned. It caused casualties. According to the police, the bus driver was driving the bus under the influence of alcohol.

One of the three involved in the incident is the school principal who has already been arrested. Besides, the driver who jumped from the bus just before it hit the tree has also been taken into custody along with the school secretary.

The fitness certificate of the GL Public School bus expired in 2018. The incident has raised questions about the safety of buses and debates over keeping schools open on Eid.

State Education Minister Seema Trikha said an inquiry is being conducted to find out why schools were kept open on holidays. He said that the school should have been closed and a show cause notice has been issued in this regard.

He also said that school and bus owners along with the driver should be held accountable for such a tragic incident. If the (school bus) driver is found drunk, the school authority will be held responsible for the incident. In such cases, an FIR will be lodged against the driver, school principal and bus owner.

Meanwhile, a senior police official said that the driver's medical examination confirmed that he had alcohol in his blood.

Officials said that 14 of the students admitted to hospital after the accident have been released but three are in critical condition.
