Operation in support of students in Kurigram Hospital, seizure of expired kits

The Directorate of Consumer Rights Protection conducted a raid with the help of students at the 250-bed General Hospital in Kurigram. At this time, 11 types of expired kits stored in the refrigerator of the hospital were seized. The operation was conducted on Monday (August 19) afternoon.

Meanwhile, the hospital authorities have assured to form an investigation committee to take necessary action against those involved. The coordinators of the anti-discrimination student movement demanded the punishment of the hospital supervisor.

According to sources, 11 types of expired pathology kits were seized during the raid at Kurigram General Hospital. With these kits, the results of various tests including blood and urine of the patients are given. Although these kits are valid till May 2022-23-24, there have been allegations of various experiments with them.

Mahmudul Hasan Limon, a member of the anti-discrimination student movement, said, 'There are various irregularities in the hospital with the patients. We have often heard such news. The hospital supervisor does not take any action regarding these irregularities. Even before this, we raided this hospital and found various irregularities. As always, nothing matches assurance. So we are demanding the punishment of the hospital supervisor on behalf of the student discrimination agitators.

ASM Masum-ud-Daula, Additional Assistant Director of Consumer Rights Protection Department, Kurigram, said, 'Pathology kits are an essential component for testing. Testing with expired materials is a crime. 2025 is written on the fridge. But the expired kits have been seized from inside the fridge. We will destroy these seized items.'

Kurigram General Hospital Resident Medical Officer (RMO) Dr. Shahinur Rahman Sardar Shipon said, 'I came here during the operation on the instructions of the supervisor.'

Claiming that the expired kits in pathology were stored by mistake, he assured to investigate the matter and take necessary action.
