Order to ensure security of ATM booths during Eid holidays

The last regular bank transaction before Eid will be next Tuesday (April 9). After this, all types of banks will be closed for 6 consecutive days during the upcoming Eid-ul-Fitr holiday. ATM booths, mobile financial services, internet banking, point of sales (POS), QR codes and online e-payment gateways will remain open during this time. On Thursday (April 4), Bangladesh Bank sent instructions to all banks to ensure uninterrupted services. It has specifically asked to ensure the security of ATM booths.

Before this, banks will be closed for three consecutive days from Friday (April 5) to next Sunday (April 7). Then Monday (April 8) and Tuesday (April 9) are open for 6 consecutive days as public holidays. Generally, there is pressure on online transactions including ATMs during Eid closure. At such times, there are reports of not being able to withdraw money due to various technical crews including non-receipt of money.

According to the instructions of Bangladesh Bank, appropriate measures should be taken to deal with the risk along with ensuring uninterrupted service during Eid. During this time any kind of transaction should be informed through SMS alert. Measures should be taken to ensure that the customer is not subjected to any kind of harassment. Helpline should be kept open for any complaint.

It has been asked to ensure round-the-clock vigilance of guards at ATM booths and other security measures. Bank officials should visit the booth if necessary. Point of sales and QR code based transactions should be ensured at all times and merchants and customers should be made aware to prevent fraud. Besides, the central bank has directed to ensure uninterrupted transactions in MFS services and supply of sufficient cash at agent points.
