Pardon those 57 Bangladeshis who were sentenced in the United Arab Emirates

The President of the country, Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, pardoned those 57 Bangladeshis who were sentenced for protesting on some roads in the United Arab Emirates in support of the quota reform movement. Meanwhile, a court of the country sentenced 57 Bangladeshis to various terms of imprisonment. Three of them have been sentenced to life imprisonment, 53 to 10 years and the remaining one to 11 years.

Emirates News Agency (WAM), the state-owned news agency of the emirate, said at the time that they would be repatriated after their prison terms.

According to the WAM report, these people were protesting against the government of their own country. An eyewitness confirmed that they organized large-scale protests on several roads in the UAE to protest against the decision taken by the Bangladesh government.

On the other hand, on August 18, Foundation for Law and Development (FLD) Chairperson Senior Advocate Fawzia Karim claimed in a press conference, then the officials in charge (of the embassy) told the officials of Dubai that they are terrorists, (expatriate activists) are anti-independence, they have no objection if they are arrested. Due to which no legal aid was given. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has written to every embassy asking them (the protestors) to be silenced and punished.
