Presentation of Muntasir Mamun Gold Medal in History Department of Zabi

Jagannath University's history department has introduced a gold medal in the name of eminent historian and former teacher of history department of Dhaka University Professor Muntasir Mamun.

The gold medal was launched at an agreement signing ceremony held at Jagannath University's Vice-Chancellor's Conference Room on Thursday (May 23).

According to the agreement, every year in the history department of Jagannath University B. A. (Honours) Historian Muntasir Mamun Gold Medal will be awarded to the student with the highest CGPA at the end of the fourth year second semester final examination based on graduation results.

It should be noted that Professor Muntasir Mamun's former student and current professor of History Department of Jagannath University worked as the founder of this trust fund. Chowdhury Shahid Quader.

Later, the family members of Professor Muntasir Mamun came to support his initiative. Initially, the donors formed the trust fund by paying ten (10) lakhs of rupees.

It should be noted that Professor Muntasir Mamun has been associated with teaching, history studies and political-cultural movements for almost five decades. He is the former Bangabandhu Professor of History Department of Dhaka University and currently Bangabandhu Professor of Chittagong University. Founder of Khulna Genocide Museum and Bangladesh History Society. He is the teacher of almost all the history department of Jagannath University.

It is known that Friday (May 24) is Professor Mamun's 73rd birthday. The history department of Jagannath University organized this agreement signing ceremony today to pay tribute to the career of this distinguished teacher.

Jagannath University Vice-Chancellor Professor Sadeka Halim was present as the chief guest on the occasion. Moreover, Professor Muntasir Mamun was present as the guest of honor.

Jagannath University Treasurer Professor Dr. was also present. Humayun Kabir Chowdhury, Registrar (Acting) Prof. Dr. Md. Ainul Islam, Chairman of the History Department Professor Murshida Binte Rahman, Professor Dr. Mohammad Salim, Professor Khodeja Khatun and on behalf of the donors Fatima Mamun and Professor Dr. Chowdhury Shahid Quader and many others.

In this regard, Vice-Chancellor Professor Sadeka Halim expressed his gratitude to the donors for standing by the Department of History with such an initiative.

When asked about this, the Chairman of the History Department Professor Murshida Binte Rahman said that Professor Muntasi Mamun Gold Medal was introduced in the History Department today. The founder of this trust fund is the professor of history department. Family members of Chowdhury Shahid Quader and Professor Muntasir Mamun. As a donor, they gave a check of Rs 10 lakh today.

He also said that every year the gold medal will be awarded to the student with the highest CGPA among the graduating students of the history department. It will continue every year continuously but this gold medal will be given to the students on the convocation day of the university.

In the speech of the guest of honour, Professor Muntasir Mamun thanked his former students working in the Department of History for helping to launch this trust fund.
