Protest demanding resignation of Chamek principal, academic activities stopped

The principal of Chittagong Medical College (Chamek) accused Dr. Students are holding protest and human chain program to demand resignation of Sahena Akhtar.

The students are carrying out the program which started on Wednesday (August 21) morning. Due to this, the academic activities of the medical college have been stopped.

The protesting students complained that Principal Sahena Akhter has been harassing the students in various ways for a long time. Although politics is banned in Chamek campus, the principal himself has been patronizing the leaders and workers of his party day after day. He deprived the students of various facilities of the college. Various infrastructures including college playground, auditorium were not allowed to be used by the students and on the contrary, they were allotted to various companies on rent. He gave privileges to those who were his followers.

It is also alleged that the principal came to the classroom and threatened those who expressed solidarity with Chamek in the anti-discrimination student movement. On August 3, he threatened to take action against the students' movement in the name of peace rally. They said that the students' agitation will continue until Chamec principal Sahena Akhtar resigns.

Meanwhile, principal Sahena Akhtar has been absent from the college for two days due to the agitation.

It should be noted that Sahena Akhter joined Chittagong Medical College as principal on 23 January 2021.
