Iranian President Ibrahim Raisi, who was killed in a helicopter crash, will be buried in the Shiite holy city of Mashhad. His body was taken to Mashhad on Thursday, Reuters reported.
Raisi's coffin was taken to Mashhad on Thursday morning. A procession took place with his coffin in the eastern city of Birjand. Meanwhile, thousands of people paid their last respects to the slain president.
Earlier, the plane carrying Raisi's coffin was given a guard of honor as it arrived in his hometown of Mashhad. Raisi will be buried in the golden-domed Imam Reza Shrine.
President Ibrahim Raisi died in a helicopter accident last Sunday (May 19) night. At that time, Foreign Minister Hossain Amir Abdullahian and eight other people were in the same helicopter.
