Rashed Khan Menon arrested

Workers Party president and former minister Rashed Khan Menon has been arrested by Dhaka Metropolitan Detective (DB) Police. He was arrested from Gulshan in the capital on Thursday (August 22) evening.

According to the Public Relations and Media Department of DMP, he was arrested by the detective police based on specific information. He will be produced in court on Friday (August 23).

The Workers Party is one of the partner parties of the Awami League-led 14-party alliance. During the Awami League period, he first served as the Minister of Private Aviation and later as the Minister of Social Welfare.

Incidentally, the anti-discrimination student movement has been accused in the charges filed by the International Criminal Court for the killing of the students and crowd at the center and the massacre at the Hefazet Islam rally on May 5, 2013 at Shapla Chatwar.

Also, a defamation case of Tk 300 crore has been filed against former Supreme Court judge AHM Shamsuddin Chowdhury Manik, Workers Party president Rashed Khan Menon and Jasad president Hasanul Haque Inu for making objectionable comments about former President Ziaur Rahman, the founder of BNP.

Lawyer Ziaul Haque filed the case as the plaintiff in Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Saiful Islam's court on Thursday. Later, the court took the statement of the plaintiff and directed the Police Bureau of Investigation to investigate the allegations and submit a report.

According to the complaint of the case, Shamsuddin Chowdhury Manik called Ziaur Rahman as Razakar and war criminal on Channel Eye talk show on October 3, 2022. He said in a seminar on February 15 last year, Ziaur Rahman was not a freedom fighter. He was an intruder in the liberation war.

It is said in the complaint that on July 19, 2013, Hasanul Haque Inu and Rashed Khan Menon made adverse comments about Ziaur Rahman on different occasions. Apart from this, the accused also made adverse comments about the Zia family at various times.
