The court granted a 5-day remand to Bangladesh Workers Party president and former minister Rashed Khan Menon in the case of the shooting death of businessman Abdul Wadud in the capital's Newmarket police station area during the anti-discrimination student movement.
After the hearing on Friday (August 23), Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate. Ali Haider's court gave this order. Earlier, Rashed Khan Menon was arrested from Gulshan in the capital on Thursday (August 22). Later he was taken to Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DB) office.
The Workers Party is one of the partner parties of the Awami League-led 14-party alliance. The president of the party, Rashed Khan Menon, served first as the Minister of Private Aviation and Tourism and later as the Minister of Social Welfare during the Awami League government. Rashed Khan Menon was elected Member of Parliament as a candidate of the 14-party alliance led by Awami League from Dhaka-8 constituency for three consecutive rounds since 2008. Menon was elected from Barisal-2 seat (Ujirpur-Banaripara) in the last 12th National Assembly elections.
Incidentally, Rashed Khan Menon has been accused in the charges filed at the International Criminal Court for the killing of students and the crowd during the anti-discrimination student movement and the massacre at the Hefazet Islam rally at Shapla Chattar in Motijheel of the capital on May 5, 2013.
