Former Awami League Member of Parliament Haji Mohammad Salim has been admitted to the Dhaka Medical College (DMEC) Hospital as he became 'sick' on remand by the Dhaka Metropolitan Intelligence Police in a case of killing a college student amid the quota reform movement.
On Tuesday (September 3), Haji Salim was taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital at around 12:30 am, said Medical Police Outpost Inspector Bachchu Mia. Haji Salim is being treated in cabin number 107 of the hospital. However, it was not immediately known what kind of illness he was suffering from.
Earlier, the former MP of Dhaka-7 (Lalbagh) Constituency Haji Salim was arrested by the police last Sunday (September 1) from Banshal area of ββthe capital. He was arrested in the case of murder of college student Khalid Hasan Saifullah during the quota reform movement. Last August 19, Khalid's father, Kamrul Hasan, filed the case at Lalbagh police station. He has accused a total of 51 people including former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. Later, when the investigating officer of the case, sub-inspector of Lalbagh police station, Akkas Mia Haji Selim, applied for a 10-day remand, the court granted a 5-day remand. The former MP fell ill on the second day of his remand and went to the hospital.
Incidentally, Khalid Hasan Saifullah, a first year student of Ideal College, was shot dead in the Azimpur government residential area of ββLalbagh on July 18 during the anti-discrimination student movement.
