Thousands of workers of the Avanti Color Tex Limited factory in Bisik industrial area have protested by blocking the road in Fatulla of Narayanganj to demand outstanding salary. Today, Sunday (April 21), they started the protest by throwing electricity poles, bamboo and wood on the Dhaka-Munshiganj regional road from 9:30 am. This blocked the road for traffic for at least two kilometers.
Meanwhile, Shilpa Police and Fatulla Model Police Station were seen on the road to keep the situation under control.
The workers of the factory said that the factory was declared closed after working till noon on April 8. Even though they got bonus before Eid, their March salary was due. The factory owner promised to pay the salary through mobile banking before Eid, but the workers did not receive it. The workers said that they spent days in financial crisis during Eid.
It is known that many could not go to the village due to not getting salary before Eid.
The workers said, 'We who are crony workers do not have any Eid or festival. Every month salary Laiga has to go down the street. I could not even buy a bus ticket to go home (to the village). No money, what to do when you go home? The owner of Croni has given us the joy of Eid too. Are we human or something else?'
Meanwhile, Kroni Group Managing Director Aslam Sunny promised to pay the salary by Wednesday and said that I gave bonus to all the workers before Eid but could not pay the salary for March as the shipment was not done properly. We will pay everyone's salary by next Wednesday.
On the other hand, the blockade caused at least two kilometers of traffic jam. Many have suffered a little.
However, the police said that the workers did not cause any disturbance. Moreover, the police are working to control the situation.
