There are rumors that the former Chief Justice Obaidul Hasan has left the country. On Tuesday (September 3) evening, the news of his leaving the country came in various media. However, it is not known which country he went to.
Obaidul Hasan sent his resignation letter to the President on August 10. In his resignation letter, he wrote, “I have to take this decision to protect the Supreme Court building and its records, to protect the court premises, to protect the judges' houses, to protect the judges' tower, to protect the judges from physical abuse and to protect the district judge's courts and record rooms.” His house on Hare Road was vandalized after the fall of the Awami League government.
Earlier, Justice Obaidul Hasan took oath as the 24th Chief Justice of the country on September 26, 2023. When the Awami League government collapsed in the face of the anti-discrimination student movement, Obaidul Hasan resigned from the post of Chief Justice on August 10.
Prior to his resignation, the students blamed the judges for using the judiciary to implement party agendas. The agitators also claimed that the Chief Justice cannot avoid the responsibility of the economic loss caused to the country by ordering the closure of the investigation against the money launderers.
In the meantime, a contempt of court case was filed against 7 judges including former Chief Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain, former Chief Justice Hasan Faiz Siddiqui and former Chief Justice Obaidul Hasan on August 28. And on August 29, the bank accounts of former Chief Justice Obaidul Hasan and former Attorney General AM Amin Uddin were seized.
Earlier, on October 13, 2017, former Chief Justice SK Sinha left Dhaka under pressure from the Awami League government.
