A school student named Arpan Karmakar (16) committed suicide by jumping from the roof of the building in Kotwali of the capital. He is a ninth grade student of Collegiate High School. It is known that he jumped from the roof of the building out of contempt for his father.
The incident took place at Shankhari Bazar Kailas Ghosh Lane around 3.30 pm on Thursday. Deceased Arpan Karmakar is the only son of Dipankar Karmakar of Doajani village of Nagarpur upazila in Tangail.
Dipankar Karmakar, the father of the deceased said, I scolded my son on a small matter on Thursday afternoon. So he jumped from the roof of the seventh floor of the house, being proud of me. Arpan was rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital where he died around 5:30 pm.
Crying, he said, the heaviest burden in the world is the dead body of the child on the shoulders of the father. If I had known earlier, I would not have scolded Arpan at all.
Bachchu Mia, in-charge inspector of DMK Hospital Police Camp, said that the teenager was brought to the hospital in a daze from Kailas Ghosh Lane in Shankhari Bazar. He later died at around 5:30 pm while undergoing treatment in the emergency department. We have reported the matter to the concerned police station.
