Scotland's first Muslim First Minister resigns

Scotland's first Muslim First Minister and Scottish National Party (SNP) leader Hamza Yusuf is considering resigning. He announced his resignation on Monday (April 29). The BBC reported this information in a report.

According to the report of the British press, both the Scottish government and the SNP believe that Hamza Yusuf may resign on Monday. Citing reliable sources, it is also said that senior leaders also think that today Hamza Yusuf will announce his resignation.

The leader has been under pressure since his deal with the Scottish Green Party ended last week. The opposition has proposed two confidence votes in the Scottish Parliament. One against the First Minister and the other against the Scottish National Party government.

The Parliamentary Bureau, made up of presiding officers and MSPs from the major parties, will decide this week when the vote will take place. Notice of polling is usually given two days in advance. Earlier there were rumors of Hamza Yusuf's resignation.

East Lothian MP Kenny MacAskill said Yusuf's resignation would create an 'unrealistic situation'.

Hamza Yusuf was elected the first minister of Scotland in March last year. He is the sixth First Minister of Scotland. He is also the first Prime Minister elected from an ethnic minority. 37-year-old Hamza of Pakistani origin is the youngest Prime Minister.

Besides, he is going to be the first Muslim to lead an important political party in the UK.
