Sister's press conference demanding justice for Munya's murder

Muniyar's family members demanded re-investigation of Mosharat Jahan Muniyar's murder and punishment of Anveer.

On Tuesday (August 20) at 11:30 a.m., the victim's family held a press conference at the Abdus Salam Hall of the National Press Club to demand exemplary punishment for the main accused in the rape and murder of Mosarat Jahan Munia, including Sayem Sobhan Anvir.

Barrister M Sarwar, the lawyer of Munya's murder case, said that there was a failure of three parties to ensure justice in Munya's murder.

He said, “Those who handled the state had to supervise these cases. The home ministry has a cell to supervise important cases. But they are easily managed.”

M Sarwar also said, “On the other hand, those who report the investigation and the court system has also been managed. You know who has managed. He is the infamous Law Minister Anisul Haque. His chamber has destroyed the judicial system of Bangladesh, big accused have been granted bail.”

In the press conference, Muniya's family members demanded to ensure their safety. They also demanded reinvestigation of the case through executive order.

Munia's elder sister Nusrat Jahan Tania said, “Since I went to Gulshan police station to file a case, the Bashundhara group was trying to cover up the murder and rape case by the then IGP Benazir and Gulshan Police DC Sudeep Kumar, ADC Nazmul, OC Abul Hossain, SI Ali Ashraf. (PBI) played a shameless role in saving Anveer. Later, Gulshan police station released Anveer and submitted their investigation report.

He also said, “After I requested several times to meet Awami League President and former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and gave a letter of about 26 pages, she did not meet me. I believe that Anvirs are so desperate if they do not get Sheikh Hasina's indulgence. He didn't dare to become.”

Nusrat said, PBI identified Muniya's child as Anveer's child in their investigation, but they did not ask for Anveer's DNA test. They arrested Saifa Mim and Piyasa, the other accused in the case, but did not interrogate or arrest Anveer even once.

He said, “I am now drawing the attention of the legal advisor and the chief counsel to ensure justice in my sister's case. Even if my sister did something wrong, she has been treated with extreme injustice. It should be treated exemplarily.”

On the night of April 26, 2021, the police recovered the body of 21-year-old Mosharat Jahan Munia with a veil wrapped around her neck from a flat in Gulshan, Dhaka. On the same night, Munia's sister Nusrat Jahan Tania filed a case against Bashundhara Group MD Anveer in Gulshan police station, alleging 'incitement to suicide'.

It is said in the statement of the case, Sayem Sobhan Anveer developed a relationship with Muniya by showing 'marriage temptation'. He had a commute to that house. But instead of getting married, he 'threatened' Munya.
