Sramik League leader beaten to death in Rangamati


An allegation of beating to death of a Sramik League leader was found in Kaukhali in Rangamati. On Wednesday (August 28) the murder happened in Chanri market in the upazila.

Later in the afternoon, his relatives recovered his body from the side of the road in Chara Battal Chowdhury Market area of ​​Raujan. Later it was sent to Rangamati General Hospital morgue for post-mortem, said Rajeev Chandra Kar, OC of Kaukhali police station.

The deceased Abdul Mannan (27) was the general secretary of Betbunia Union Sramik League of Kaukhali Upazila. He is the son of Kabir Ahmed of Sugar Mill Dakbungalow area. Abdul Mannan's brother Korban Ali Driver said that Abdul Mannan, a driver by profession, left behind two wives, two sons and a daughter.

Locals say that after the fall of the government on August 5, almost all the leaders and activists of Awami League in Kaukhali and Betbunia went into hiding. Wednesday was Chanri Bazar Hatbar. Awami League leaders came there from morning. Then the enemy attacked them.

Sramik League leader Abdul Mannan, who had come to the market on hearing the news of the beating, tried to move away. He took an auto-rickshaw and left for Raujan. On the way, he was arrested and severely beaten in Godarpar area. Later, the attackers left him in Chara Battal area. Later, the family members rescued Abdul Mannan after receiving information from the locals and took him to Rouzan JK Memorial Hospital. Doctors there declared him dead.

Driver Korban Ali said that Mannan had injury marks on his chest and left hand. The police of Kaukhali police station took the body from the house and sent it to the Rangamati General Hospital morgue.

Chairman of Rangamati Hill District Council and President of Kaukhali Upazila Awami League Angsui Pru Chowdhury blamed BNP workers for the attack and said that a group of terrorists started mass beating innocent political workers, ordinary Paharis and others who came to the market. At least seven people were injured in their beating. Many fled for their lives, abandoning the goods they brought to sell. We demand justice for this incident.

He also said that Helal Uddin (58), Taib Hossain Jhunu (52), Ukyching Marma (35), businessman Pradeep Dey (60), salon shopkeeper Rajeev Sheel (42) were badly beaten up in the market that day.

However, Kaukhali Upazila BNP president Jahangir Hossain denied such allegations. He condemned the incident and said that the situation is like this now, many people are doing many things to spoil the name of our party. We humbly request the law enforcement agencies to take strict action. We do not want to spoil the peaceful atmosphere of Kaukali in any way. He also demanded exemplary punishment by finding those who are creating unrest in the peaceful area.

However, whoever is involved in the incident should be identified and brought under the law. No innocent should be harassed. We also want the peaceful environment of Kaukhali to be maintained.

Rajeev Chandra Kar, OC of Kaukhali police station, said that since the incident happened in the area of ​​Raujan police station, a case will be filed there later.

Incidentally, the day after the fall of the government, a group of people beat up Chhatra League leader Shahidul Islam Sumon at Kaukhali upazila headquarters on August 6. Two leaders of Awami League affiliates were killed in a political attack. Apart from this, the district Awami League office was burnt and the houses of more than a hundred Awami League and affiliated organizations were burnt down and vandalized.
