Due to the intense wildfires going on in the country, the fire in the heart of the Sundarbans has spread to more areas. Amarbunia area of Chandpai Range of Sundarban East Forest Division of Bagerhat was burnt overnight. Finally, on Sunday (May 5) at 8 o'clock in the morning, 3 units of the fire service started extinguishing the fire. At this time, the fire is said to have spread over an area of two kilometers.
Earlier on Saturday (May 4) around 3:30 pm, the fire broke out in the Gahin forest near Amurbunia patrol outpost in Chandpai range of East Sundarbans. Even after the evening of this day, fire and smoke coils can be seen sporadically in more than half a hundred places. After receiving the information, the forest department, fire service, police all attended the spot. But as it was evening, they had to leave the expedition unfinished. From Sunday (May 5) morning, fire service, navy, forest department, police, local administration started fire extinguishing work.
Deputy Director of Fire Service and Civil Defense Khulna Division Mamun Mahmud said that after hearing about the incident of fire in Sundarbans, Forest Department Fire Service and locals rushed there. We could not start the program as it was yesterday evening. 5 units of fire service are ready since morning. 3 units are starting to douse the fire. Navy, forest department, police and local administration are all assisting in fire fighting.
Morelganj upazila executive officer SM Tarek Sultan said, so far the fire has been limited to two kilometers. A water canal has been constructed due to tidal water in the canal. Fire cannot spread. Fire service, forest department, course guard and often more than five hundred manpower are working. Hope the fire can be brought under control soon.
