That's what Human Rights Watch said in a letter to the chief adviser

United States New York-based international human rights organization Human Rights Watch (HRW) chief advisor to the interim government. Muhammad gave a letter to Yunus.

HRW has confirmed the letter in a statement on Monday.

The letter was written on August 19, which was published yesterday, August 26.

The letter to the Chief Adviser said the interim government should seek an outline at the upcoming session of the UN Human Rights Council to establish an independent mechanism for investigation and accountability of the recent incidents in Bangladesh.

The 57th session of the Council will begin on September 9 this year.

Human Rights Watch said the interim government should work with UN experts to act independently and uphold international standards against disappearances, torture and extrajudicial killings during the 15-year administration of former Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

Lucy McKernan, deputy director of Human Rights Watch at the United Nations, said, 'After the resignation of Sheikh Hasina amid mass protests, it is important to ensure that the interim government of Bangladesh is accountable for the past in running the country. The government should seek UN support for an independent internal inquiry into recent human rights abuses as well as 15 years of human rights abuses by the former government.'

Apart from this, the letter also calls for protection of Rohingya refugees seeking asylum in Bangladesh, increased representation of women in the interim government and disbandment of forces such as the Rapid Action Battalion or RAB.
