The interim government has been taking and implementing various initiatives regularly to keep the country's economy moving. Already the country's economic infrastructure has started to undergo massive changes.
Bangladesh Oil, Gas and Mineral Resources Corporation (Petrobangla) will import 20 cargoes of liquefied natural gas (LNG) to meet domestic demand. This LNG will be imported from the spot market through 23 companies that have signed the MSPA.
A meeting of the Advisory Council Committee on Economic Affairs on Wednesday gave in-principle approval for the import of LNG from the spot market. Convener of the committee Finance and Commerce Adviser Salehuddin Ahmed presided over the meeting.
The Advisory Council Committee on Economic Affairs has given in-principle approval for the import of LNG from the spot market under the 'Public Procurement Rules, 2008' through 23 companies that have signed a Master Sale and Purchase Agreement (MSPA) with Petrobangla to meet the country's urgent gas needs.
As a result of this approval, Petrobangla will import 20 cargoes of liquefied natural gas (LNG) in four months of this year (September-December).
In this, six cargoes of LNG will be imported in this month of September. In addition, Petrobangla has planned to import five cargoes in October, five cargoes in November and four cargoes in December, the last month of the year.
At the end of the meeting, Finance and Trade Advisor Salehuddin Ahmed told reporters that policy approval must be given before purchasing anything. Purchase Committee (Purchase Committee) cannot give approval without policy approval.
He said, questions were raised about the 23 institutions that have signed the MSPA and have been given in-principle approval to import LNG from the spot market under the Public Procurement Rules, 2008. Institutions are good. We are satisfied.
Previously, LNG was imported from the spot market through these institutions, then why new policy approval is required, Energy and Mineral Resources Department Secretary Md. Nurul Alam told the media that in the past, imports were made through a special law, but now the government has decided that the law will no longer be used. Hence in-principle approval of import under Public Procurement Rules is sought.
He said that in order not to create an energy crisis in the future, initiatives have been taken to import more LNG.
