The loss in 20 districts is about 7 thousand crores


State Minister for Disaster Management and Relief. Mohibbur Rahman said that due to the impact of Cyclone Remal, there has been a loss of 6 thousand 880 crore rupees in 20 districts of the country.

He gave this information at the briefing after the inter-ministerial meeting on the overall issue of Cyclone Remal in the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief at the secretariat on Sunday afternoon.

The state minister said that Cyclone Remal hit the coastal areas of Bangladesh on May 26. Due to its effect, flood occurs in several coastal areas. As a result these areas are submerged in water. Apart from this, 16 people lost their lives. Several roads, embankments, houses and social institutions were damaged. All accounts will be received from the ministries by June 9.

He said, we have taken various activities for disaster preparation since last few days. Coordinated with all departments of the government and conducted disaster management activities. Now continuing the post-disaster activities. The day after Cyclone Remal hit, I personally contacted the MPs of the coastal districts on phone and inquired about the locals.

Informing about the ongoing dredging work of the Payra river near the Payra port, he said that the silt coming from the surrounding area has damaged the dredging work of the river. Similarly, old embankments have also been damaged. Now recommendations will be made to the Prime Minister for the construction of modern embankments.

The state minister said that so far, 5 crore 75 lakh cash, 5 thousand 500 metric tons of rice, 9 thousand packets of dry food, 200 bundles of cotton, 2 crore 45 lakh rupees for cow food and 2 crore rupees for buying baby food have been donated to the victims in 19 districts. 45 lakh has been distributed.

He said that various government departments, agencies, local administrations, various local and international voluntary organizations, political leaders, including Awami League and its affiliates and affiliated organizations have stood by the victims. Immediately after the cyclone, I visited the affected areas of Koira in Khulna, Charfashan in Bhola and Kalapara and Rangabali in Patuakhali and ensured that relief and emergency services reached the affected.

The State Minister said that on June 30, the Prime Minister visited Kalapara in Patuakhali to visit the Cyclone Remal area and distributed relief materials to the cyclone victims.

He said that floods have occurred in Sylhet, Sunamganj and Dinajpur districts for the past few days. 20 lakh cash in Sylhet district with the help of flood victims, 500 May. Tons of rice, cattle fodder of Tk 10 lakh and baby food of Tk 10 lakh have been distributed. On the other hand, in Sunamganj district, Tk 15 lakh cash, Tk 5 lakh cow food and Tk 5 lakh baby food have been distributed. Similarly, Rs 15 lakh in cash and Rs 3 lakh for dry and other food items have been allotted in Dinajpur district.
