The mute mother lost the only lamp of the family

Mother Shahina Begum is speechless after losing the only lamp in the family. Sajjad Hossain Sajal, the only son, was shot dead in Dhaka during the nationwide anti-discrimination student movement. The family is mourning the loss of a child.

Sajjad Hossain Sajal, son of farmer Khalilur Rahman of Muktinagar Union of Saghata Upazila, was shot dead in the Ashulia area of Dhaka on August 5 during the anti-discrimination student movement. He was a student of Dhaka City University.

According to the family, on the day of the incident, his mother called Sajal and asked him to come back home. He said, father, you are the only lamp of our family. If something happens to you, who will we live with? His mother works in a private clinic in Dhaka. At that time, Sajal said to his mother, if I can save the lives of 10 boys instead of my own life, that will be the selfishness of my life. This was the last word of his mother with Sajjad Hossain.

Then Sajjad Hossain and his four friends were killed in the firing. His mother searched for Sajal in various places including hospital in Savar-Ashulia area but could not find him. The next evening on August 6, the army miked to identify the four bodies. When he got there, he did not recognize the strange-looking child who had been burnt to ashes at first sight. Later, he identified the son's body by seeing the college ID card around his neck. Later came to know that the bodies of four of them were put in a car in front of Ashulia police station and set on fire. The dead bodies of their four friends got burnt in that fire.

Locals said that Sajal was a child of a very poor family. He used to work as a day laborer along with his farmer father. Seeing his strong interest and talent in education, his parents were making his son study very hard. Here he got good results from college and got admitted to a private university in Dhaka at the beginning of this year. Her mother works as a nanny at Ashulia Women and Children Hospital in Dhaka. All their dreams are over.

Their demand to this new government made up of students is to arrange permanent rehabilitation for this family as soon as possible.

Sajal's mother Shahina Begum said, on the day of the incident, I repeatedly asked her to come back home. I last spoke to him on August 5 at 2:45 on the phone. He is annoyed to call again and again and says, I have the dead bodies of two brothers lying in front of me. They want to dump more bodies. If I can save 10 lives even with my life, that will be my life's worth. Why are you bothering me by calling again and again? Are you selfishly thinking only of your son? That's why he hangs up. His phone was not found unlocked after 3 pm that day. That was the last thing I said to my son, because of this he burst into tears.

He also said that no one has contacted the government so far.

“My son was brutally killed by setting fire to his body after being shot,” he said. I demand the highest justice for this murder.

Jahangirnagar University student Mueed Muhammad Fahim, coordinator of anti-discrimination student movement Gaibandha, said, “On this eve of second independence, we remember our martyred brothers and sisters and injured brothers and sisters with deep respect. Along with medical arrangements for the injured, the anti-discrimination student movement, students of Gaibandha wing have been strongly demanding for the rehabilitation of the families of the martyred brothers. We have been organizing prayers for the injured and martyred brothers and sisters every Friday. Besides, we have taken steps to recognize and honor the martyred heroes of the district in every educational institution. We are also working to prepare a specific list and establish a memorial in collaboration with the district administration.
