The name and design of Sheikh Hasina Stadium is being cancelled

In the meantime, after acquiring the land of Sheikh Hasina International Cricket Stadium in Purbachal, the construction work was waiting to start. It is certain that the Sheikh Hasina Stadium will not be named after the former Prime Minister as announced by the Sports Advisor.

Besides, the stadium is designed in the shape of a boat. At that time, the river was said to refer to motherland Bangladesh, but the boat was the election symbol of Awami League. But this time the name and design of the stadium is changing.

However, in the changed situation, Farooq-led BCB does not want to start working now. In that regard, a director was saying, 'We have to stop this tender dropping. Otherwise another new problem will arise. A meeting has been called for this on 29th. We want to postpone or change the time of tender dropping.'

Another board director said, 'It is not possible to build a stadium in the previous design. If the boat is designed as it was, there is a high risk of breaking it. In addition, the name must be changed.'

Besides, the source of the board said, 'We need the stadium. Commitment to the ICC. The number of fields should be increased to host the 2031 ODI World Cup. But when the work begins? Another director Akram Khan told the media that an idea was found, 'We (this board) are there till October next year. We may not be able to handle any major project during this period. I want to finish the small works that are there.'
