The public life of Moulvibazar has been disrupted by floods again

The continuous heavy rains of the last three days and the landslides coming down from the upstream of India have submerged about three hundred villages of Kamalganj, Rajnagar, Juri, Kulaura and Sadar upazilas of Moulvibazar district. Roads and houses were not spared by Ban water. More than two lakh people of four upazilas of Moulvibazar district have been disoriented by the terrible humanitarian disaster. Due to lack of boats and dry food, the water-bound people are living an inhumane life.

According to the information of Moulvibazar Water Development Board, on Wednesday (August 21), Manu river (Railway Bridge) of the district is flowing 105 cm above the danger limit, 70 cm in Chandnighat area, 8 cm in Dhalai river and 174 cm in Juri river. The water of the Kushiara river has also touched the limit. Water is still entering the locality with strong currents.

Locals said that continuous rains and landslides coming down from upstream have caused erosion of the defense embankment at several places. On the other hand, about 30 villages of Islampur, Adampur, Madhabpur, Kamalganj, Shamsernagar, Rahimpur, Parka Usha, Munsibazar Union of Kamalganj Upazila have been flooded due to the upstream hill slopes. Most of the roads in the upazila are under water.

It can be seen that Ghoramara and Bhanubil Maghergaon areas of Kamalganj-Adampur regional road are submerged in water. Ghoramara, Ranirbazar of Adampur Union, Mokabil and Kurma Checkpost areas of Islampur Union have breached the river embankment and water has entered the locality. Hundreds of thousands of people have been trapped in the waters of Herenga Bazar, Sreepur and Bhandarigaon areas on the Adampur-Islampur road.

In Kulaura, hundreds of villages have been flooded after the dam broke at different places. In this, thousands of people are trapped in water in various areas of Tilagaon, Jaychandi, Sadar, Routgaon and Prithimpasha Union of the upazila. Many villages are also cut off by road.

Thousands of people in Phultala, Jaifarnagar, Sagarnar, Goalbari, Purbajuri and Paschimjuri union of Juri upazila have been trapped in water due to floods again. There is panic in public life as the flood water rises.

Meanwhile, the upazila administration said that shelters are ready for the water-bound. The town of Moulvibazar said that the water level in all the rivers of the district is rising due to continuous rains of several days, hill slopes and water coming down from the upstream.

Those concerned said that due to continuous rains, erosion has occurred in at least 5 places of Manu and Dhalai rivers. Thousands of people in five unions of the upazila have been affected by the flood. Hundreds of villages in the lower areas of Phultala, Goabari and Sagarnal Union of Juri Upazila have been submerged in flood water. More than 40 hectares of Aman paddy has been submerged. Several villages of Tengra and Tarapasha Unions have been flooded after the dam of Manu River in Rajnagar Upazila broke. Meanwhile, few villages of Khalilpur and Chandnighat Union of Moulvibazar Sadar Upazila have also been flooded.

Meanwhile, although various voluntary organizations have come forward with relief aid and rescue operations with boats for the flood victims, the local people's representatives and administration are not strongly on the ground, so the water trapped people are not getting help like in the past floods. Victims from several regions also said that many are unable to go to safe shelters.

When asked, Executive Engineer of Moulvibazar Water Development Board, Javed Iqbal said, the dam has been breached at eight places due to the increase in the water of Dhalai river. The Manu river dam has also broken. Rains in India's Tripura have increased water levels in rivers. When the rain decreases, the water will go down. Besides, he said that work is going on in the places where the dam has broken.

Meanwhile, the administration believes that the flood situation will worsen as the rain continues throughout the day. Different areas of the district are getting flooded again.
