The regional officer visited the district election office which was burnt by fire

A group of miscreants attacked the district election office and server center in Sherpur after the fall of the anti-discrimination movement on August 5.

At that time miscreants set fire, vandalized, looted laptops and computers in various rooms of the district election office. They also burnt two office servers, a jeep and two motorcycles. As a result, all service activities of the district election office were stopped. Meanwhile, because of arson and looting in Sherpur Sadar police station, the office authorities could not file a case. However, after 15 days of the incident, when the military operation of Sadar police station started, a general diary was made. However, the authorities have already launched all services except the new voters in the alternative system.

According to the sources of the district election office, about one and a half million rupees have been damaged including various rooms, furniture, laptops, computer cars of the election office. Belayet Hossain Chowdhury, Regional Officer of Mymensingh Division came to visit on Wednesday afternoon to see these damages on the ground. Additional Regional Officer Abdur Rahim, District Sherpur District Officer Anwarul Haque and Sadar Upazila Officer Farid Uddin Ahmed were present with him at that time. Regional Officer Belayat Hossain Chowdhury assured to resume normal operations of the District Election Office and speedy steps to repair the damage.

In this regard, District Election Officer Anwarul Haque said, I informed the higher authorities about the looting and burning of the district election office after noon on August 5. But due to the vandalism and burning of Sherpur Sadar police station, a general diary was made on August 18 as the police station activities were delayed. Besides, the preparation of the case is going on.
