The rights of working people must be established in the movement itself: Japa

Jatiya Party presidium member and special assistant to the chairman Mir Abdus Sabur Asud called upon the hardworking people of all levels to unite under the leadership of opposition leader Golam Mohammad Quader to establish the fair rights of the working people.

On the occasion of Great May Day, he made this call as the chief guest in a discussion meeting of Jatiya Motar Sramik Party and CNG Three Wheeler Branch Central Committee at Jatiya Party's central office in Kakrail on Wednesday (May 1).

He said, even after so many years of freedom gained in exchange of the blood of 30 lakh martyrs, the financial liberation of the country has not come. The right of working people has not been established. It is very sad for the nation.

Asud said, today is the great day of May, the day of working people's rights. 138 years ago on this day in 1886, the workers at the Hay Market in the city of Chicago, United States, called a strike for various demands, including eight-hour working hours, better working conditions, and wage increases. Aggrieved workers came down the road that day to collect their demands. But the labor protests and agitations were brutally suppressed. Workers sacrificed their lives in police firing. Then the whole world became vocal about that incident. It was through the self-sacrifice of the workers of Chicago that the rights of working people were established. The rights of working people should be established through such movement and struggle.

Jatiya Motar Sramik Party convener Mehedi Hasan Shipon presided over and member secretary Abdur Rahim moderated the discussion meeting as a special guest, party secretary Mahmud Alam.
