A student named Toufiq Rahman (21) died after drowning in the water of a pond in Joypurhat. The incident took place on Monday (May 27) at the Sabuj Nagar new passport office area of the district town. The officer-in-charge (OC) of Joypurhat Sadar Police Station Humayun Kabir confirmed the matter.
Tawfiq is the son of Nizamuddin of Chitrapara Mohalla of the district town. He has passed HSC this time.
According to police and local sources, Taufiq along with some friends went there to bathe in a pond in the new passport office area of Sabujnagar Mahalla. At this time, when the friends went to the pond to take a bath, Tawfiq stood on the bank without swimming. Suddenly Tawfiq accidentally slipped his foot and fell into the water of the pond. His friends could not even try to rescue Taufiq.
On being informed, the members of the fire service went to rescue him and took him to Joypurhat General Hospital for treatment. The doctor on duty there declared him dead.
