The UK's expert team will equip the police force


Sarah Cook, the British High Commissioner in Dhaka, said that an expert team from the United Kingdom is coming to Bangladesh next month to provide training and ancillary support to police force reformers.

In addition, the Home Affairs Advisor informed the British High Commissioner that the British High Commissioner should form a government commission headed by a retired High Court judge to investigate the incident of 'disappearance' by the law and order forces during the Awami League government. The five-member committee will submit its report within the next 45 days.

Sarah Cook expressed hope that those involved in the violence and human rights violations that occurred during the anti-discrimination student protests in July-August would be swiftly brought to justice through an impartial investigation. The advisor informed the High Commissioner about the visit of the United Nations Fact Finding Mission to Bangladesh.

Sarah Cook, the British High Commissioner appointed in Dhaka, said that the United Kingdom is willing to provide all kinds of help and support to the interim government. The United Kingdom has been working together with Bangladesh for several years in counter-terrorism. We would like to increase cooperation in this regard in the future. Jahangir Alam also assured to stand by this work.

Besides, Cook also wants the advisor's assistance in the repatriation of Bangladeshis living illegally in the UK. He also said to follow standard operational procedure (SOP) in this regard.

When the adviser asked for the UK's support in the rehabilitation and repatriation of the Rohingya, High Commissioner Sarah Cook said that the UK is the second largest country in financing the Rohingya. Over the past 7 years, the UK has spent £400 million on Rohingya aid. The UK is working with the UN Security Council to bring the Rohingya issue under the international community's attention.

At this time, the Home Affairs Adviser highlighted the flood situation in the country and sought the help of the United Kingdom.

The meeting was attended by the First Secretary (Political) of the UK Embassy, ​​Dean Adele Siyanbola and Immigration Liaison and Migration Manager Lee McRae, along with senior officials of the Ministry of Home Affairs.
