The context of Bangladesh has come up again in the US State Department's briefing. During the briefing of the country on Wednesday (March 7th) local time, a journalist questioned Bangladesh's recent comments and whether the United States was taking any action against the interim government.
The questioner said that US intelligence chief Tulsi Gabbard warned about the growing threat of Islamic extremism in Bangladesh and an attempt to establish an Islamic Khilafat. However, he (Tulsi) did not directly blame the interim government led by Muhammad Yunus- the Yunus government also deny these concerns, calling them untrue.
In addition, there was a huge rally at Dhaka University yesterday, the questioner said.
The journalist added that in view of the ongoing concerns of the US government, is the United States considering taking drastic measures like the Yunus government?
Responding to these questions, newly appointed spokesman for the US State Department, Tammy Bruce, said, “We condemn any incident of violence or intolerance to minority communities in any country.” And welcome the steps taken by the interim government of Bangladesh to ensure the safety of all in Bangladesh. That's what we are observing and that's what we expect. And that will continue.
