The water is slowly decreasing, the suffering is increasing


Lakshmipur 1 million people trapped in water

Flood water is coming down slowly from flood affected Lakshmipur, Comilla, Noakhali and Feni. However, even though the water has receded from various roads, the houses are still under water. As a result, Banvasi people are suffering. Many are not getting enough medical care. Various water borne diseases are increasing.

Large areas of 5 upazilas are still submerged in Lakshmipur as the flood water recedes slowly. More than 1 million people are spending their days in extreme suffering.

Meanwhile, there is an acute shortage of food and clean water in the affected areas. Even though relief assistance has been provided by government and private initiatives, the victims say that it is insufficient. It is also known that various water-borne diseases are spreading in flood-affected areas.

Ban water is also coming down slowly from Comilla Sadar, Burichong and Chauddagram. However, Nangalkot, Manoharganj and Laksam are still flooded. About 11 lakh people of the district are still water-locked.

Residents are spending inhumane days due to lack of food and fresh water. 724 shelters have been opened. In which more than 76 thousand people have taken shelter. Residents of the areas where Ban water has gone down are busy repairing their houses.

Water is also coming down from the affected areas of Noakhali. But it is very slow. Residents are suffering because houses and roads are submerged. Some areas are still without electricity. Relief assistance is being provided by public and private initiatives in flood affected areas.

Meanwhile, due to the collapse of the Muchapur closure, the river broke in Companyganj. Many structures including houses are under threat.

Flood situation to improve in Feni. However, the suffering did not abate. Many areas of Sadar, Sonagazi and Daganbhoona upazilas are still submerged. About 5 lakh people are stuck in water. Many people spend their days in shelters.

However, it is said that there is still food shortage in these areas. According to the local administration, 19 people have died in the flood so far in the district. As of yesterday afternoon, the last 52 deaths have been reported across the country due to ongoing floods.
