A murder case has been filed against former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and seven others in connection with the killing of journalist Tahir Zaman in Dhanmondi during the anti-discrimination student movement. The mother of the slain journalist filed the case at the capital's Newmarket police station on Tuesday (August 20) night.
Other defendants in the case are former Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan, IGP Chowdhury Abdullah Al Mamun, Ramna Division Police DC Ashraf Imam, ADC administration and New Market Zone Hafiz Al Asad, Assistant Commissioner New Market Zone Refatul Islam Rifat and former OC of New Market Police Station. It is mentioned in the statement of the case that on July 19, Tahir went to the science laboratory area of the capital to participate in the movement. At that time, the police fired at the students. At one stage of the incident, someone found Tahir's body lying a few feet away from Dhanmondi Ideal College. Tahir's body could not be taken to the hospital as the accused continued to fire.
Incidentally, the deceased Taher Hossain was a former video journalist of The Report.Live. He quit his job six months ago. He was killed in a clash on the Central Road of Dhanmondi during the agitation on July 19.
