'There is no political pressure to prevent youth gangs, there is pressure from the influential'

Dhaka Metropolitan Police Commissioner Habibur Rahman said that there is no political pressure on the police to prevent the activities of juvenile gangs, but there is pressure from influential people. Besides, there are allegations of involvement of 21 councilors in the capital with youth gangs, but concrete evidence has not been found yet, he said.

The DMP Commissioner said this in the speech of the chief guest at the Shadow Parliament debate competition organized by Debate for Democracy on Saturday (April 27) on political goodwill and social movement to prevent youth gangs at FDC in Dhaka.

DMP Commissioner Habibur Rahman said, out of 50 police stations including Mirpur, Mohammadpur, Uttara and Jatrabari, 10 police stations are plagued by juvenile gangs. We have identified many juvenile gangs. But the godfather of the youth gang cannot be caught directly. Their patrons remain untouchable in the thrall of the law. However, there is no negligence on the part of law and order forces in eliminating the juvenile gangs.

Habibur Rahman said that the family and society must play a responsible role in juvenile crime. Lack of sports, arts and cultural activities, teenagers are turning towards crime. In Dhaka city, children and teenagers have to agitate for a small playground. Today's children are tomorrow's Bangladesh. In order to build Bangabandhu's dream of gold bangla, we have to build crime-free golden people.

The debaters of Dhaka Commerce College defeated the debaters of Shaheed Police Smriti College in favor of the proposal titled “Social movement is more effective than political will to prevent youth gangs” in the Shadow Parliament organized by Debate for Democracy.

The judges of the competition were Professor Abu Muhammad Raees, ist GM Taslim, ist Zia Khan, ist Animesh Kar, ist Kawsar Soheli. Trophies, crests and certificates were awarded to the winning teams at the end of the competition.
