Three teachers in Sunamganj two upazilas were forced to resign

Three head teachers of three schools in Dharmapasha and Madhyanagar upazilas of Sunamganj have resigned. However, it has been alleged that three teachers resigned under compulsion.

Of the three teachers who resigned, the principal and assistant principal of Gachtala High School in Dharmapasha upazila and one assistant teacher of Madhyanagar Public Girls High School in Madhyanagar upazila. Besides, an assistant teacher has been temporarily suspended for two months. The incident took place in the two schools on Sunday (August 25) afternoon.

In 2000, Sumita Bala Talukdar was appointed assistant head teacher in Gachtala High School of Dharmapasha Upazila and Md. as assistant teacher. Din Islam joined. Presently Sumita Bala is working as head teacher and Deen Islam as assistant head teacher.

After talking to the teachers of the school, the students of the anti-discrimination student movement and the general students, it was learned that last Sunday (August 25) around 10:30 am, the former students of Gachtala High School and some locals entered the class room of the school, took the students out of the room and gathered them in the field. After that they took out a procession demanding the resignation of the headmaster and assistant headmaster. On hearing the news, 10 to 15 students from Dharmapasha and Badshaganj areas of the anti-discrimination student movement went there and brought the students back to the school classroom.

Later, at around 11:30 am, the students of the anti-discrimination student movement sat in a meeting with the former students of the school, local dignitaries and current students. In the meeting, it was decided to resign the head teacher and assistant teacher. Later, at around 12:30 PM, the matter was informed to the Headmaster and Assistant Headmaster. At one point, the two teachers were forced to resign.

Some parents on condition of anonymity said that those two teachers along with other teachers and students of the school influenced former member of parliament Moazzem Hossain Ratan. In the rest room (common room) of the girls of the school, the people of the contractor of the construction of the new building of the school are allowed to stay.

Sumita Bala Talukder, head teacher of the school said, “We have submitted our resignations due to pressure. The allegations against us are false. Whatever decision is taken in the school is according to the decision of the managing committee.

On the other hand, another teacher, Titas Mahmud, had an argument with Sharif Uddin, an assistant teacher of Madhyanagar Public Girls High School last Thursday afternoon. Around 10:30 am on Sunday, the students of the school boycotted classes demanding an end to the dispute between the teachers. Later, around 11 o'clock in the afternoon, 10 to 15 school teachers, including students of anti-discrimination student movement of Madhyanagar upazila, came to the auditorium. At one stage, they asked the headmaster to voluntarily resign assistant teacher Sharif Uddin on various charges and to suspend another assistant teacher Shamim Ahmed for two months for being a friend of that teacher and indirectly helping him in various works.

At that time, all the teachers including the headmaster requested not to take any action against those two teachers.

At one point Sharif Uddin was forced to resign and assistant teacher Shamim Ahmed was suspended for two months by the headmaster.

Assistant teacher Sharif Uddin said, those who came here, most of them are not students, they forced me to resign by threatening to beat me.

Fazle Rabbi, an ordinary student of the anti-discrimination student movement, said, “No pressure was put on us. Assistant teacher Sharif Uddin resigned in the face of demands from teachers and students. And as the assistant teacher Shamim Ahmed became his friend and assisted him indirectly in various works, the headmaster expelled that teacher for two months.

Madhyanagar Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Atish Darshi Chakma said that he heard about the resignation of the teacher. But he is outside the upazila.

Dharmapasha UNO Mohammad Ghiyas Uddin said, I have received the resignation letter of two teachers. I have asked the upazila secondary education officer and academic supervisor to discuss the matter with the students of the school.
