Time TV is off air

According to the court's directives, private television channels have been stopped from airing TV.

The satellite channel went off air on Monday (August 19) after 11:59 PM. However, the online news portal of the television is active.

Earlier, on Monday, the High Court ordered the suspension of broadcasting of private television channels of Bangladesh for seven days.

Justice Naima Haider and Justice Shashank Shekhar Sarkar's High Court bench passed the order on Monday following a writ petition filed by Samham Media Limited. Senior lawyer Ahsanul Karim and advocate Farzana Khan Nila stood for the company in the court. Deputy Attorney General Faiz Ahmed appeared for the state. Senior lawyer AM Mahbub Uddin Khokon appeared for the managing director of Zaham TV, Ahmed Jobair.

Ahsanul Karim, the lawyer of the organization, said that in the past, television was being used as a spokesperson of the government, pressure was applied, for which a remedy was sought.

Besides, many workers here have been victims of discrimination and oppression. The workers who suffered discrimination are protesting against those who left them helpless during the previous government. As a result, there is a security concern in the company, says lawyer Ahsanul Karim. And for this reason, instructions have been sought from the government to stop broadcasting for 7 days. The court has ordered to stay closed for 7 days.

Stating that there is no problem with the ownership of the company, Ahsanul Karim said that 75 percent of the company is owned by City Group. 25 percent of others. According to the rules of the organization, the managing director should be changed after two years. Since that was not done, Shampa called a televised meeting and replaced Ahmed Zobair with Shampa Rahman as the managing director.

Earlier, in the meeting of the board of directors of Time Media Limited on August 10, Ahmed Zobair was relieved from the position of managing director and chief executive of Time Television and Shampa Rahman was appointed as the new managing director.

According to the notification, all the activities of Time Media Limited will be conducted under the guidance of the new managing director.

Later, Ahmed Zobair appealed to the Company Bench of the High Court on August 14, challenging the validity of this exemption. The hearing is scheduled to be held on August 22.
