The Tennessee Titans have cut 2021 first-round pick Caleb Farley, per ESPN’s Adam Schefter. The Titans selected Farley with the No. 22 overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, but Farley will not make the Titans’ final 53-man roster this season.
“We appreciate Ran and the Titans and all they have done to support Caleb,” Farley’s agent, Drew Rosenhaus, told The Tennessean. “They have been great to him. He won’t give up and will continue to work hard to establish himself in this league.”
The Virginia Tech product was the third cornerback off the board in his draft class, after the Carolina Panthers selected Jaycee Horn and the Denver Broncos took Patrick Surtain. Both Horn and Surtain were top-10 picks. Farley was a promising player and athlete out of college, but his potential has yet to materialize in the NFL.

Farley has struggled to stay healthy throughout his career, even going back to his time in college. The 6-foot-2 cornerback tore his ACL in Week 6 of his rookie season, his second torn ACL. Farley first tore his ACL prior to his freshman season at Virginia Tech.

Farley returned for the 2022 season, but suffered a herniated disk in his back in Week 10, and landed on the injured reserve once again. He underwent a microdisectomy, causing him to miss the remainder of the season. The injury carried over to the following season, and Farley did not play in 2023.
The Titans had already declined Farley’s fifth-year option in May. Farley missed time during training camp this summer due to a hamstring injury, but managed to return for the Titans’ final preseason game against the New Orleans Saints on Sunday. He recorded one tackle in his return, but it was not enough for Farley to retain a spot on the team.

Over his three seasons with the Titans, Farley appeared in just 12 games with two starts. He recorded 14 total tackles and one pass deflection, and played more snaps on special teams than defense during the 2022 campaign.
The Titans will likely roll with Chidobe Awuzie and L’Jarius Sneed as their two starting cornerbacks this season. Awuzie signed with the Titans in March after spending the last three seasons with the Cincinnati Bengals. The team also added Sneed on a four-year deal. Sneed is coming off a Super Bowl win with the Kansas City Chiefs last February.
