Tofa, Maruf and Shams elected


Tofazzal Hossain Khan Tofa and KM Salman Shams in Nagarpur were elected to the post of chairman in the private results of Sadar Upazila Parishad elections in Tangail. Mahmudul Hasan Maruf became chairman again in Delduar Upazila Parishad elections.

According to election office sources, there were 4 lakh 40 thousand 24 voters in 140 centers of Sadar Upazila. Out of this 1 lakh 13 thousand 162 voters exercised their right to vote. Sadar Upazila Awami League general secretary Tofazzal Hossain Khan (Dowat Kalam) was elected as the chairman by getting 42 thousand 47 votes. His nearest rival Sadar Awami League President (Ghora) got 35 thousand 208 votes.

38 thousand 272 people exercised their right to vote in 98 centers in Nagarpur. Among them, KM Salman Shams (Honours), son of the late Awami League party member of parliament, brave freedom fighter Abdul Baten, was elected chairman by getting 35 thousand 747 votes. His closest rival Abdus Samad (Horse) got 15,306 votes.

There were 1 lakh 84 thousand 758 voters in 59 centers in Delduar. Among them 63 thousand 395 voters exercised their right to vote. District Awami League member Mahmudul Hasan Maruf (Kap Pirich) was re-elected by getting 29 thousand 297 votes. His nearest rival, General Secretary of Upazila Awami League, Shibli Sadiq, got 18,953 votes.

District Election Officer. Matiur Rahman said that voting was done in 297 centers of three upazila municipalities and 32 unions. In three upazilas, three judicial magistrates, 33 executive magistrates and eight platoons of BGB are conducting the election.
