A proposal to limit US President Donald Trump's ability to conduct military operations in Iran has failed again in the US Senate. It was the fourth such vote, nearly seven weeks after the start of the war, in which the proposal was rejected.

Local time on Wednesday saw 52 votes against and 47 in favor of the proposal. If the resolution passes, Trump would not be able to launch a US military operation in Iran without congressional approval.

Democrats said they would regularly bring up such a proposal in the Senate to clarify the position of lawmakers. Senator Tim Kaine of Virginia told the BBC that even if the vote does not pass, the proposal will help people understand who is responsible for this war.

Most Republicans, on the other hand, oppose the proposal. However, some of them said that if the 60-day limit is exceeded, they may consider changing their location.

Senator Josh Hawley, Republican of Missouri, said he believes the administration is currently within the terms of the War Powers Act. So he voted against the proposal on Wednesday.

But he added that if the administration can't demonstrate de-escalation and get congressional approval within 30 days, then he will take a stand on a new warfighting proposal.
