5 lakh 86 thousand 40 Odhikar families in 12 districts of the eastern part of the country have become waterlogged due to continuous heavy rains in the upstream and hill slopes. Thousands of relief funds have been collected at Dhaka University (DU) Student-Teacher Center (TSC) to alleviate some of the wounds of the people of these districts after the floods. This public relief collection program which started in the morning did not stop for a second. Students of various educational institutions of the capital, including DU, are working tirelessly with great enthusiasm.
This public relief program started on Friday (August 24) morning and will continue till 8 pm. Going to the ground and visiting the TSC area, people are crowded. They are staying by the side of the flood victims as much as they can. They are bringing various dry foods including chira, mudri, moya biscuits full of packets and sacks. Essential items like food saline, water, medicine, sanitary napkins were also seen to be brought. Besides, they are handing over relief and cash money to the representatives of the movement according to their ability. The students sitting in the booth are depositing the money by writing the donation amount in the ledger.
Besides, many people are bringing new and old necessary clothes in their bags. Everyone's objective is to help the flood victims, the story of humanity that the state was supposed to write, is being written by the common people and TSC has become a TSC of humanity. Shahnaz Begum brought five bags of new clothes with her daughter-in-law and grandson from the capital's Elephant Road.
He said, “My mother and sister are wet in the rain and they have no clothes to wear.” For this reason, I have brought some new clothes for now. I came here for the first time today. I will come again tomorrow, see if I can help by bringing any other necessary items.
Meanwhile, Kazi Roksana works in a private company in Gulshan. TSC has come with various daily necessities and relief to help the flood victims by pushing the traffic jam. Roksana said, cooperation is done through many means including online, but it is very good to be able to give relief with my own hands. It is said that a kind of calmness is working to be able to do something for the flood victims.
The whole area inside TSC is spread out in relief. From everyday clothes to medicines and dry food items. Aqib, a student of DU Soil and Water Environment, has been working since ten o'clock that morning. He said, we have been working continuously since morning. A lot of relief is coming compared to last Friday. A quantity of medicine also arrived till afternoon. It feels great to be with the flood victims like this.
Meanwhile, Suryasen Hall of University like TSC, Haji Muhammad Almost all the halls including Muhsin Hall, Freedom Fighter Ziaur Rahman Hall have the same picture. Students have undertaken various activities to stand by the flood victims on their own initiative. From collecting essential items from cash and clothes to packing them and reaching the flood affected areas, they are having a very busy time. According to the information of those associated with the relief program in TSC, last Friday only cash amount was 1 crore 42 lakh 50 thousand 196 taka. Before this, a total of 29 lakh 76 thousand 173 taka was collected on Thursday.
