Two and a half million people without electricity, 25 thousand mobile phone towers closed

Heavy Cyclone Rimal has damaged power networks in coastal districts. Two and a half million people without electricity. Power supply has been cut off in many areas to prevent damage. Meanwhile, around 25,000 mobile phone towers are down across the country due to lack of electricity. This has made mobile network outages quite miserable.

There is no electricity anywhere in Lakshmipur district since Sunday midnight. The electricity office is not able to say when the electricity will be normal. Mobile network is also disrupted due to lack of electricity. On the Lakshmipur-Ramgatti road, trees uprooted the road and communication was cut off. Communication was normalized by Monday afternoon after the trees were removed.

Around 5 lakh customers have been without power since Sunday afternoon in Bagerhat. About 3 lakh 65 thousand customers are disconnected due to power supply cut off in Shariatpur.

Locals say that the electricity went off around 11 pm on Sunday. Since then there was no electricity.

Altap Hossain, general manager of Shariatpur Palli Vidyut Samiti, said that our linemen will go to the area when the storm stops completely. The lines will be activated only after identifying where the fault occurred. After that the power will be normal.

When asked how the damage was done, Altap Hossain said, it is not yet possible to say. Can check the whole line later.

Meanwhile, Satkhira has been without electricity since noon on Sunday. Trees fell on several roads in Jhalkathi, blocking traffic. After removing the tree, the traffic flow became normal. The people of Patuakhali and Pirojpur are suffering due to lack of electricity.

Around 25,000 mobile towers across the country have become inoperable due to Cyclone Rimal. Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) has said that there has been a major outage in mobile communication as a result.

BTRC chairman. Mohiuddin Ahmed said that work has already started to repair the damaged towers. The towers will be commissioned as soon as possible by the operators.

Apart from this, various coastal areas including Barisal, Bhola, Barguna, Madaripur are still without electricity.
