Two cases against Palak


Two cases have been filed in Natore's Singra with former Minister of State for Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology Junaid Ahmed Palak as the prime accused. Two leaders of BNP and Juba Dal of Singra Upazila filed two cases as plaintiffs on Monday (September 2) night for assaulting and beating BNP leaders and workers during the 11th National Assembly elections.

Singra Upazila No. 12 Ramanand Khajura Union BNP Joint Convenor Ariful Islam filed a beating case at Singra Police Station as the plaintiff. Former state minister Junaid Ahmed Palak has been made the main accused. In addition to Palak, 30-40 unknown persons have been named accused by mentioning the names of 15 people.

Ramanand Khajura Union's 2nd Ward General Secretary of Yuba Dal filed another case on the charge of beating. Shimul Hossain. Former state minister Palak has also been made the main accused in this case. Apart from Palak, 27 Awami League leaders and activists have been made accused.

Apart from Palak, Ramanand Khajura Union Parishad Chairman Zakir Hossain, Union Awami League President Idris Ali, General Secretary Mukul Hossain have been accused in two cases.

According to the source of the case, on February 11, 2023, during the padayatra program of the Union BNP, 30/40 people came to Kaigram area on motorcycles and vans with firearms and fired several rounds of blank shots. At this time, BNP leaders were beaten with iron rods and were left bleeding. Union Awami League general secretary Mukul Hossain stole a mobile phone from the plaintiff. If the case is filed, the accused also threatened to kill.

On the other hand, Shimul, a BNP worker of Harini village in the upazila, filed a case as the original plaintiff. In this case, the names of 27 leaders and activists of Awami League including Ramanand Khajura Union Awami League Chairman Zakir Hossain of the upazila have been mentioned.

Shimul Pramanik, the plaintiff in this case, said that he was attacked and severely beaten on December 30, 2018 in Badopara High School grounds for the crime of being an agent of rice grains in the National Assembly elections.

According to the source of the case, Jubo Dal leader Shimul Hossain complained of beating, mobile phone and Tk 10,000 in cash while being an agent of paddy grain during the National Assembly election on December 30, 2018. The next day, the accused came to Harini Tin Matha intersection of the upazila and killed the defendant.

Confirming the authenticity of the two cases, Singra Police Officer-in-Charge (OC) Abul Kalam said that there have been two separate cases against Awami League leaders and activists including former state minister Junaid Ahmed Palak. Legal action will be taken after investigation.

Incidentally, former state minister Junaid Ahmed Palak was arrested from Hazrat Shahjalal Airport while fleeing the country and is currently in remand in a case filed by the police. This is the first time two cases have been filed in Palak's name at Singra in his native Natore.
