Two groups clash in Kushtia, UP member killed

A UP member named Mamun (40) was killed in a clash between two groups over renovation of Eidgah at Goswami Durgapur in Kushtia. 4 others were injured in the clash. The injured are undergoing treatment at Kushtia General Hospital.

The clash took place in Goswami Durgapur area of ​​Kushtia Sadar Upazila on Saturday (August 24) morning.

The deceased is a member of Ward No. 7 of Goswami Durgapur Union of Mamun EB police station and son of former UP member Habil Uddin of Asannagar village.

According to local sources, for the past few days, current UP member Mamun has been in conflict with General Secretary of Goswami Durgapur Union Awami League and former UP Chairman Dabir Uddin and his people over the renovation of the local Eidgah.

UP member Mamun and his people were returning home after Fajr prayer at the mosque on Saturday morning. Meanwhile, former chairman Dabir Uddin's men ambushed them and clashed between the two sides. In the clash, UP member Mamun was seriously injured by sharp weapons and was rescued and taken to Kushtia General Hospital. The doctor on duty there declared Mamun dead.

Regarding the clashes and killings, EB police station (OC) Mamun Rahman said, additional police have been deployed to keep the environment calm. No one has filed a case in this incident so far. If there is a case, legal action will be taken subject to investigation. He mentioned that the body of the deceased has been sent to the morgue for post-mortem.
