Two Top 10 College Football Programs Labeled ‘Frauds’ After Losses

Two Top 10 college football programs are hurting following losses to unranked opponents in Week 6. The hopes of returning to the College Football Playoff are in serious jeopardy for No. 9 Texas and No. 7 Penn State after suffering embarrassing defeats on Saturday.

Quarterback Arch Manning and the Longhorns laid an egg in their first game against a Power 5 program since they lost 14-7 in their season opener to then-No. 3 Ohio State. Behind a shaky offensive line, Manning threw for 263 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions in Texas’ 29-21 loss to Florida in front of 90,714 fans at Ben Hill Griffin Stadium.

The outcome was a surprise for the Longhorns, who entered the year No. 1 in the Associated Press preseason poll. The Gators were 1-3 before Saturday’s game.

Following a heartbreaking loss to No. 2 Oregon in overtime in Week 5, Penn State came out flat against a previously winless UCLA, trailing the Bruins 24-7 at halftime. Quarterback Drew Allar helped close the gap in the second half, but the Nittany Lions let transfer quarterback Nico Iamaleava earn his first win in a Bruins uniform.

Penn State left the Rose Bowl with a 42-37 loss to UCLA in front of a crowd of 39,256. After being a preseason favorite to contend for a conference championship, the Nittany Lions are now 0-2 in Big 10 play.

Fans on social media declared Texas and Penn State “frauds” after being exposed on Saturday.

“Texas and Penn state are the biggest frauds ever,” wrote a fan.

“As a penn state fan, it’s easy to identify frauds (my team being one). Texas is always a fraud,” posted another.

“Most overhyped, overrated teams I think I have ever seen in all of my 40 years of enjoying college football on this planet: Texas and Penn State Frauds. Period,” argued a poster.

“Let’s go ahead and unrank Texas and Penn State,” suggested a fan. “As the weeks go on we see the frauds and the teams who are elevated by beating frauds.”

“By now, many are waking up to the fact that Penn State and Texas are frauds and should have never been ranked. You’re late to the game, but welcome to reality,” wrote another.

PSU and the Longhorns are sure to drop out of the Top 10 after Saturday. It’ll be interesting to see where in the Top 25 they land, if they stay ranked, after losses to unranked opponents.

Texas will have to regroup quickly, as it next plays No. 5 Oklahoma in the “Red River Rivalry” in Week 7.

Penn State will host 3-2 Northwestern in Week 7.
