Tyler Reddick Gives Health Update After Battling Sickness During Darlington Race

NASCAR regular season champion Tyler Reddick was battling a stomach illness during the Cook Out Southern 500 at Darlington Raceway yesterday. The driver, after revealing the extent of his condition during the race, has since provided an update.

Throughout the race, Reddick faced grueling symptoms, including persistent nausea. He was heard commenting to his 23XI team, “I’m throwing up, sh***ing myself, all of the above.”

He explained to the media after the race, as quoted by On3.com:

“Just really thankful that a lot of great people on our team.

“They were feeding me the right stuff in the car to help me manage it best as I could. Just smart people. Able to put the right stuff in my drink to help calm my stomach down.

“At one point, I was just waiting to puke all over myself. Thankfully they kept that from happening. A whole lot of other gross stuff.

“We were able to avoid a lot of that, which was nice, but it was extremely uncomfortable in the car all night.

“I held on for dear life all night.”

Before the race, Reddick had visited the infield care center where he took Imodium, which he later reflected on as a double-edged sword. The medication eliminated the possibility of immediate relief, resulting in a night of severe discomfort. He admitted:

“I actually really just wanted to get it out because it was really, really bad. I took some Imodium at the infield care center earlier. That was the worse thing for me because I couldn’t get anything out that I wanted. It was just a rough night.”

His efforts were not in vain; his tenacity enabled him to finish the race in the top 10, marking the 11th top-10 finish in the last 13 races. This performance also secured his one-point lead over competitor Kyle Larson, clinching the NASCAR regular season championship.
