Ultimatum of pro-BNP lawyers to remove the new PPK of Dhaka

Pro-BNP lawyers have given an ultimatum to remove the newly appointed Public Prosecutor (PP) Ehsanul Haque Samazi from the Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Court. Otherwise, the social worker will not be allowed to perform this duty.

He is set to resign by 9am on Wednesday (August 28). Earlier on Tuesday, Ehsanul Haque Samazi was appointed as the PP of the Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Court. Before him, Advocate Abdullah Abu was in this position. He has not come to court since the change of power on August 5.

Ehsanul Haque Samazi previously served as Dhaka Metropolitan Public Prosecutor for two years during the army-controlled caretaker government. After the election of 2008, when the Awami League government was formed, he was removed from this position and Abdullah Abu was appointed. He served as PP during the whole period of Awami League government.

Pro-BNP lawyers protested in front of the Dhaka Bar Association after the news of the appointment of the new PP was published on Wednesday (August 28) afternoon. At that time, they demanded the interim government to immediately cancel the appointment of Ehsanul Haque Samaj.

Former president Borhan Uddin and former general secretary Omar Farooq Farooqui, who were elected from the BNP panel in the Dhaka Bar Association elections, were seen leading the protest. At that time they locked the PP office. Aggrieved lawyers claim that Samajhi has been appointed as PP to give advantage to Awami League.

In this regard, Omar Farooq Farooqi said, 'Samazi is the agent of Awami League, all his family members are from Awami League. He supported the Awami League in the bar elections. Lawyers are outraged by his appointment. If his appointment is not cancelled, we will give the next program.'

However, newly appointed PP Ehsanul Haque Samazi did not want to comment on this. He said, 'It is a matter of the entire government. I have not received any letter yet. So I don't want to comment on this for the time being.'
