The aircraft was an Airbus A320 operated by TransNusa Airlines. The jetliner stands about 38 feet tall, according to Aviator Insider.
The shocking moment was captured in a brief video clip posted to social media, showing the moment of the fall.
The crew on the ground can be seen manually pushing the boarding staircase away from the main door at the front of the plane just as their colleague is coming out. He appears to be facing inside the cabin and unaware that the stairs had been removed before he falls onto the tarmac, spilling the papers he was carrying.
He sustained non-life threatening injuries, according to reports.
