Woman Amazed by What Husband Was Doing When She Was in Labor: ‘Pure Gold’

A new mom has gone viral after sharing the unexpected thing her husband was doing while she was in labor, and it has left internet users in hysterics.

While a woman is in labor, there are many things that partners and spouses can do to help, such as rubbing their back or offering them ice chips. But, when Emily Gomes, 26, was getting a spinal block ahead of her cesarean section, her husband, Roberto, 31, had other plans about the best use of his time.

Before Roberto could join his wife in the operating room, he had to don an all-in-one suit, hair net, and face mask. It certainly wasn’t his usual attire, and he was so excited “because he looked like a painter,” so he had to have pictures taken to capture the moment.

Gomes, of Kansas, thought her husband’s antics were hilarious. She told Newsweek that this was very standard behavior for him. Thankfully, his impromptu photo shoot didn’t take too long, and he soon joined his wife in time for the birth of their precious baby boy on May 10, 2024.

“I first found out about the pictures from my mom about a week after I had our baby,” Gomes said. “I was honestly not surprised by his weird request, and neither were my parents. I thought the pictures were hilarious.

“It’s even funnier to me because, while I was getting the spinal block, the anesthesiologist asked the nurses where my husband was. So, to think he was having those pictures taken while everyone was wondering where he was, that was so funny to me.”

After his all-important photos were taken, Roberto thought his wife didn’t know about them, but he was in for a surprise when he learned that she had indeed seen them. When he found that out, he was stunned that his wife knew about his shenanigans and couldn’t stop laughing.

How Did TikTok React?

On August 9, Gomes took to TikTok (@craftsbyemilyg) to share the photos of what her husband was doing while she was in labor. The hilarious post went viral, gaining more than 351,000 views and over 26,300 likes in just a matter of days.

Social-media users couldn’t get enough of Roberto’s priorities, leading many other moms to joke about what their partners were doing while they were in labor.

“I’m surprised by the social-media response, and I’m glad it was well reciprocated,” Gomes told Newsweek. “The comments had me laughing with other moms telling their stories about their significant others doing weird things before going into surgery, too.”

After their son was born, the delighted new parents have captured many more photos together. But Roberto’s photo shoot before his birth will live long in the memory for very different reasons.

With over 100 comments on the viral TikTok post, internet users lauded the new dad and joked about how unexpected the photos were.

One comment reads: “when you said painter, I was thinking Van Gogh, not Sherwin Williams.”

One TikTok user wrote: “the last picture is pure gold.”

“When handed the bunny suit, [my] husband asked if they could get him a set of scrubs instead, so he looked distinguished,” another user commented.

A third person posted: “My husband was sending my mom and sister selfies of him drinking juice to try and avoid passing out.”
