Woman Catches Parents Sharing Adorable Moment: ‘That 90s Type of Love’

A woman’s parents have given the internet a new standard for long-term relationships.

A video posted to TikTok by Crystal (@crystalceestyles) has gone viral after she filmed her parents speaking on the phone to one another from across a bar because they couldn’t sit together. Since the video was posted, it has received over 800,000 likes. Crystal, 33, spoke to Newsweek about the adorable moment and the example of love and marriage it has given thousands of people.

“My mama and daddy on the phone at the bar because they couldn’t sit together,” Crystal captioned the video. “This that 90s type of love.”

Crystal’s parents, Shirley and Eric, have been together for over 30 years. To celebrate Shirley’s 53rd birthday, the family took a trip to New Orleans for the weekend, where, at a restaurant, Crystal took the candid video.

“With a party of about 15, the restaurant was incredibly packed, and we were told the wait would be about three hours. Since we were all starving, we decided to try our luck at the bar, where seating was first come, first served,” she said.

That’s where the long-term, love-struck couple realized they had to sit apart.

“Unfortunately, my mom and dad couldn’t find two empty seats next to each other. My mom tried to move the chairs around but was informed that rearranging was not allowed at the bar,” she said. “So, my dad ended up sitting alone, and they started talking on the phone while eating and gazing at each other.”

For Crystal, the moment was proof of how devoted her parents are to each other.

“It was so endearing to see how inseparable they are—they couldn’t even stand to be apart, even if it was just across the bar,” she said. “They’re on the phone constantly, even while working, so seeing them do it at the bar was just another quirky expression of their love.”

‘Truly inspiring’

Crystal said her parents’ relationship has always been a beacon for her.

“Their relationship is a shining example for me and our entire family. We all admire them deeply,” she said. “Our home was always the go-to place for my cousins because they knew my parents were always planning something fun.”

Her father is a “happy wife, happy life kind of guy,” she said. And, in return, her mother is “the most delightful woman you’ll ever meet.”

The two come together so perfectly that Crystal has never even seem them argue, she said. Perhaps hard to believe, but “completely true,” she said.

From her parents’ constant, and sometimes quirky, example, she is left with lessons that guide her in her own search for a long-term love.

“Anyone can be in a relationship, but not everyone can be each other’s true friend. When you genuinely care about your partner’s happiness, making them happy comes naturally,” she said. “I’ve always believed that if I find a man who treats me the way my dad treats my mom, I’ll have found my match. Their love and devotion to each other are truly inspiring.”
