Yankees Star Juan Soto Responds to Fans Chanting For Him To Stay With Team

The New York Yankees’ offseason acquisition of star outfielder Juan Soto has been one of the bigger storylines all season. Soto has fit in well with the Yankees, helping them to become one of the better teams in baseball.

He is scheduled to be a free agent at the end of the season and the Yankees would love nothing more than to keep him around long-term. Apparently, so do the fans, and they let the star know about it over the weekend.

On Sunday, Soto heard some fans cheering and chanting his name, asking him to stay with the Yankees long-term. The outfielder responded to the fans after the game in the simplest of terms.

“I don’t know. They have to talk to Cashman.”

Soto has put the ball into the court of the Yankees for the majority of the season. He said previously that the Yankees had the phone number of his agent Scott Boras if they wanted to talk about an extension in-season.

Nothing has materialized but Soto has maintained his happiness with being part of the Yankees. Earlier in the year, he said that he loved being in New York and that it was a great city.

“I love it here, it’s a great city, it’s an unbelievable group in there,” Soto said. “I’m excited. I’m more than happy where I am right now. It’s just a great vibe we have in there.”

His co-star on the Yankees, Aaron Judge, agrees with the fans. But at the end of the day, he knows Soto will do what is best for himself and his family.

“The fans are excited and they’ve got every right to be. He’s an incredible player who’s done a lot for us this year and I think they definitely want to see a lot more of that to come,” Judge told reporters.

With Soto added to the lineup, the Yankees offense has been one of the best in baseball. It has vaulted them toward the top of the American League and has New York thinking about a potential World Series run.

On the year, Soto has hit .299 with 37 home runs and 95 runs batted in. It will take a massive contract offer to retain Soto but the Yankees have always been good about keeping its star players.

Alongside the Yankees, the New York Mets are among other teams expected to be big suitors for Soto. The Yankees may have a leg up on the other teams since Soto has been in the building with them, but money tends to talk in free agency.
