According to the source of the meeting, a proposal was brought from the Department of Energy and Mineral Resources to import 1 lakh 80 thousand metric tons of diesel from India's Numaligarh Refinery during January to December this year. The Advisory Council Committee reviewed the proposal and approved it.
It is reported that BPC's 2026 refined fuel oil import proposal was approved in principle at the meeting of the Advisory Council Committee on Economic Affairs held on October 22, 2025.
In view of this, it was decided to import 1 lakh 80 thousand metric tons of diesel (0.005% sulfur) at 11 crore 91 3 lakh 216 US dollars on the basis of negotiation with India's state-owned company Numaligarh Refinery under a term contract from January to December 2026. Its amount in Bangladeshi currency is 1 thousand 461 crore 76 lakh taka.
It is reported that per barrel diesel (premium) is 5.50 US dollars and the reference price is 83.22 US dollars. Bangladesh has been importing diesel from 2016 under a 15-year contract. Diesel is being imported from India through the India-Bangladesh Friendship Pipeline from March 18, 2023.
