12 shops burnt in Faridpur


In Faridpur's Saltha, 12 shops of various products were burnt to ashes. On Thursday (April 18) at noon, the station officer of Saltha Fire Service. Haroon and Rashid confirmed this information.

Before this, the fire incident took place at Mazhardia market of Mazhardia union of the upazila around 2 o'clock on Wednesday.

After receiving information, two teams of fire service from Saltha and Nagarkanda came and jointly put out the fire. Businessmen claimed that there was a loss of 20 to 25 lakh rupees.

The affected traders of Mazhardia market said that after 10 pm on Wednesday they closed their shops and went home to sleep. Suddenly, late at night, a fire broke out from Israfil Sheikh's grocery store in the market and spread to several shops nearby.

A grocery shop of businessman Israfil Sheikh, two hardware shops of Habib Matubbar and Shafi Fakir, a computer shop of Nizam Khar, two ice cream and pigeon shops of Arif Molya, six onion houses of Mahidul Sheikh, Bajlu Matbar and Rezaul were burnt to ashes. The affected businessmen claim that they have lost Tk 20 to 25 lakhs in the fire.

Haroon and Rashid said that two units of Saltha and Nagarkanda Fire Service went to the spot and brought the fire under control after receiving information about the fire in Mazhardia Bazar late at night. However, several shops were burnt before the fire was extinguished. The fire is initially believed to have started from an electrical short circuit.

Saltha Upazila Executive Officer (UNO) Md. Anichur Rahman Bali said, after receiving the news, I went to Mazhardia market and inspected the affected shops. Financial assistance will be given to every affected trader by the district administration.
