13 ex-minister-MPK summons ACC, no one is responding

None of the 13 former ministers and MPs who were summoned for questioning on charges of various irregularities and corruption and illegal wealth amassing have appeared before the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC). He did not even apply to the ACC for time.

The summonses were scheduled to appear on September 1, 2 and 3. Among those who have been summoned – former foreign minister. Hasan Mahmud, former MP of Jaipurhat-2 constituency Abu Saeed Al Mahmud Swapan and former MP of Bagerhat-1 constituency Sheikh Helal were asked to appear on September 1.

Besides, on September 2, former Minister of Expatriate Welfare and Foreign Employment Imran Ahmed, former Minister of State for Power and Energy Nasrul Hamid Bipu, former Minister of State for Shipping Ministry Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury, former Minister of State for ICT Junaid Ahmed Palak, former Minister of State for Primary and Ministries Zakir Hossain were summoned. .

Also former Kushtia-1 MP Sarwar Jahan, former Minister of State for Women and Child Affairs Meher Afroz Chumki, former Minister of State for Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Swapan Bhattacharya, former Jessore-1 MP Sheikh Afil Uddin, and Rajshahi-4 ( Enamul Haque, former MP of Bagmara) constituency, was summoned on September 3.

In the last 15 years, income of some of the ministers-MPs has increased, some have increased immovable and immovable assets. In this case, the wealth has increased from a minimum of 100 times to several thousand times. In some cases wealth and income increased up to lakhs. Among them, only former ICT state minister Junaid Ahmed Palak is said to be arrested and in jail.

In this regard, an ACC official said, some have left the country before being caught in the ACC net. One has been arrested but most are out of touch. Although they were summoned, none appeared and gave a statement. The letter was sent to their address following the legal process on our behalf. However, no one's statement has been received so far. If they do not appear in defence, it will be presumed in law – they have no say.

A five-member team led by ACC Deputy Director Mostafizur Rahman is investigating the corruption of those 13 former ministers and MPs. Everyone has already been banned from leaving the country.

Then, step by step, allegations of corruption in ministry appointments, misappropriation of government project funds, embezzlement of various government allocations and misuse of power to acquire illegal assets of thousands of crores of rupees and smuggling them abroad started to be added against them.
